after a busy day eating, drinking and playing zilch, last sunday i went to batsford arboretum in the cotswolds. we were really lucky with the weather as the day before, and most of the week before, it had absolutely chucked it down. i assumed it would be more of the same, but it was actually bright blue sky and really sunny. it was still frigging freezing, it is november in england after all, but it was nice and autumnal... and nice not to get pissed on for a change.

these spiky plants were spread all around amakhala and actually have a interesting relationship with giraffes. see giraffes like to eat acacia, and acacia don't like to be eaten. so the acacia have these really spiky thorns to put them off. however the giraffes can wrap their tongues around the branches and pull off the leaves without getting spiked. even if they do get spiked giraffes have adapted and don't have blood vessels in their gums, meaning they won't bleed. so the acacia needs another

A clock depicting la Folie de la Revolution. This is one of several objects with this theme at the Museum. This shot was taken with a wide aperture 50 mm lens, so the depth of field was very shallow. Just the foreground figures and the faces of the two creatures in the background are in focus.
