Lily Of The Valley, False - Maianthemum dilatatum HABITAT: Shaded or moist stream banks and open to dense coniferous and deciduous woods if moist, to 3,000 feet. RANGE: Alaska to California, also Idaho. EDIBILITY: Fruit and Leaves. The raw unripe green berries were eaten straight from the plant by Indian children. Adults would usually harvest the green berries and then store them in water until they turned red and soft. Alternatively they would dry the green berries and then boil them for a few minutes. The young leaves were cooked as a potherb.
